Plaque and Sculpture for Detroit 300

On 18 May 2002 the plaque honoring the first 51 French-Canadian voyageurs who accompanied Antoine Lamothe-Cadillac to Detroit on 24 July 1701 was dedicated. You can find the plaque next to the Cadillac statue and state historical marker in Hart Plaza, Detroit. To our knowledge, this is the only historical plaque in the state of Michigan erected by a genealogical society.

THE CADILLAC CONVOY

In recognition of the courage, perseverance and expertise of the French-Canadians who brought Antoine de Lamothe Cadillac to establish the first permanent settlement at Le Détroit on July 24, 1701.

En reconnaissance du courage, de la persévérance et de l'expertise des Canadiens-Français qui ont conduit Antoine de Lamothe Cadillac pour établir le premier établissement permanent au Détroit le 24 juillet 1701.

The convoy also included fifty French soldiers and Chacornac, baron de Joannès; Pierre Dugué, sieur de Boisbriant; Antoine Lamothe, fils; Alphonse Tonty, baron de Paludy; a Récollet priest and François Vaillant de Gueslis, S.J.

Le convoi comptait aussi 50 soldats français de même que Chacornac, baron de Joannes; Pierre Dugué, sieur de Boisbriant; Antoine Lamothe, fils; Alphonse Tonty, baron de Paludy; un frère récollet et le jésuite François Vaillant de Gueslis.
